LTVA Bulletin – February

Welcome to the February edition of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority’s South Shore Bulletin. This newsletter highlights tourism trends, strategies, initiatives, and programs that increase visitor awareness, support our community and environment, and strengthen our economy.

Visit Lake Tahoe Website Refresh

The Visit Lake Tahoe website was recently refreshed to fully align with our brand standards and to provide a more immersive experience. The most noticeable changes were to the homepage, however, the entire site was reviewed and all pages were updated to improve readability and draw attention to the information that we most want visitors to discover. Take a look around and see for yourself!

Sales Update

Juraj Sojka, LTVA Director of Tourism, during Go West Summit Marketplace

LTVA and its partners hosted the 2024 Go West Summit at the Tahoe Blue Event Center. This premier travel trade conference and marketplace occurred this year in Palm Springs in early January. LTVA’s Director of Tourism, Juraj Sojka, represented the south shore, conducting 46 one-on-one appointments. Following the summit, Visit California hosted a post-event familiarization tour (FAM), bringing eight tourism buyers and media to our destination. The FAM was supported by Margaritaville Resort, Tahoe Cruises, Lake Tahoe Adventures, Riva Grill, Tahoe Beach Retreat and Boat House, and The Landing Resort. The FAM was a success with new business development already in progress.

Operation Sierra Storm

Meteorologists from around the country visited the south shore as part of the LTVA organized OSS Conference

The 28th Annual Operation Sierra Storm (OSS), a meteorologists conference that positions South Lake Tahoe as a leading national ski destination, was held from January 26-29. The conference is sponsored by the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and executed by Weidinger PR. OSS is held mid-week over four days and includes a TV production crew to shoot speaker presentations and expert interviews. 28 TV broadcast meteorologists from across the country attended, representing many of our key flight markets, to showcase winter on the south shore.

The conference generated national attention and provided comprehensive broadcast coverage and social media results for South Lake Tahoe. Features thus far include live and taped shots from NBC and CBS National, and stations in Los Angeles, San Francisco (including the San Francisco Chronicle), Denver, Tampa, Sacramento, San Luis Obispo, Orlando, Cleveland, Charlotte, Nashville, Lansing, South Dakota, Alabama and Reno.

To date, OSS has generated 217 clips (broadcast, online and social media) with more content anticipated this month. The estimated audience reach so far is 1.6 million.
